Steel on the Rise
(Ira Caplan)

Being born and raised in Pittsburgh, identifying with pro-football and the Steelers comes easy. Being mature with and applying the tradition for good is a whole 'nother' matter.
"Steel on the Rise" invites the audience to sing along with, not only a winnning sports team, but with the winners we all have and can celebrate with in our daily lives -- family, friends and colleagues -- the people who make a difference for us in our personal 'Superbowl runs'. We are all athletes training for our own championships; we may not have media cameras and multi-million dollar sponsorships at our beck and call, but every day we have can rise to the occasion and be 'steel-hearted' in the best sense of the phrase.
Of course, not everyone is a Steeler fan, but legacy, character and humor are traits we can all be uplifted by and share in. I'm proud of where I come from, how I was raised and what it teaches me. Even if you're not a part of "steeler Nation",
I invite you to share in this triumph.
"Steel on the Rise..."
Words, music and arrangements by Ira Caplan and Bob Ryman
On the west coast, there are no mythic coal towns,
And a true Songwriter earns his way around,
By drawing on roots, and staying focused on the prize
The Northeast is colder, but a little more real,
The people there’ll wake you up and make you feel,
Families stay close, tight and hearted...like Steel on the Rise
(Such a surprise...)
I know Mom and Dad, I’m far away,
But your strong, steady love I feel every day
And no matter what city that we play….
You’re my Home Team on Gameday…
Na / Na Na ~ Na Na Na / Na Na ~ Na Na
Our grandparents got here long before the Steel Curtain
And they pulled the blackened gold from deep inside the dirt
(They said) “Keep ur mind clear & ur smile when u'r hurtin’ on Gameday….”
It's a different generation, but I stay the same,
Followin’ your footsteps and hanging tight onto your name
When we go to the air for that deeper kind of fame…
That’s when we stake our claim
I know Mom and Dad, I’m far away...
[Bridge]
When you’re from a steel city, you rise above the nitty gritty,
Till you’re feelin’ fine
And when you’re going long, you know you got to stay strong,
Till that black-n-gold can shine…
I know Mom and Dad, I’m far away...
First verse repeats, until "Like Steel on the Rise..."
Phrase repeats) "Like Steel...on the Rise..." (repeat and fade)
